Halloween Cookies

A spooky treat for everyone, try our Halloween Cookies for that little something different. The Halloween cookies, if you look at the ingredients are not all that different from the cereals that your kids are having for breakfast, so as a treat on Halloween we allow the kids to have a  Halloween cookie on Halloween morning.

For the decoration

100g sifted powdered (icing) sugar
lemon juice
water

Method
Beat together the butter, sugar, salt, pepper and mixed spice until combined. Mix in the egg yolk.
Mix the flour in by hand, bringing the dough together in a ball and knead lightly. Wrap in plastic wrap.  Refrigerate overnight.
Preheat the oven to 350°F / 180°C / Gas Mark 4.
Roll out dough to 1/8th of an inch or 3mm thick.   Using Halloween cookie cutters, stamp the cookies out and put on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 8 minutes and leave to cool.

Decoration
In a bowl, combine the powdered sugar and a little lemon juice with enough water so the icing will drop in a slow steady stream when scooped up with a fork.
Drizzle on to the cookies.
Or decorate the cookies with coloured icing as shown above.

125g butter
50g Powdered (icing) sugar
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground black pepper
¼ tsp ground mixed spice
1 small egg yolk
165g flour
