The Art of Organizing Your Kitchen

The perfect kitchen featured in magazines is never cluttered or messy, with no spills on the counter tops and dishes out of sight. Most kitchens do not arrive at that state by themselves, they need you and I to help. There are several quick ways to keep the kitchen clean and tidy, with places for everything.

The first place to start is to remove all items from the cupboard, wipe all of the shelves clean. As you organize items and replace them in the cupboard take time to throw out what is outdated or broken. Items that are will not be used often can go in cupboards higher up. Save the lower shelves for items you use frequently and group items together.

Take time to wipe off containers as you replace them in the cupboards. Plastic containers and bags are a good place to store items that you need to keep from dust or drying out; like macaroni noodles or brown sugar. Spices come in small containers, keep these in a plastic box where they can easily be found when needed.

Organize your glassware, plates, bowls, saucers near the dishwasher, that way they will be easy to put away when the dishes are done. Make sure that you have good appliances that work well. Small appliances like a hand mixer, food processer, blender and toaster can be kept in a cupboard where they can be taken out when needed and put away afterword. This leaves counter space available for use.

Once you have gone through your cupboards, discarded what is unusable or unwanted, then you should have enough room to find what you need to use when cooking. Part of keeping a kitchen organized is keeping up with the day to day clutter that naturally accumulates.

Take time every day to check what has accumulated on the counters. One way to handle the items is to have plastic bins with each person’s name on them, and then you can place items which belong to that person in the bin. It is now the responsibility of that individual to put away the items in his or her bin.

The hardest part to keeping things organized is to establish a routine, figuring out what works best for you. After a short while of keeping kitchen items organized, it will become easier for you and you can use the expertise in another area of the house that might need attention.
